These are a wheat and gluten free brownie that I have to say are totally delicious! You would never ever know that they were not made with ordinary flour!

The cost will be £18 plus postage for 12 pieces all beautifully presented in their own tin, so no hunting around for a container to keep them fresh in!

I have had so many requests for information about my cakes I thought I would share with you my very favourite baking books. These are books that I just can't live without!

I totally aspire to be Peggy Porschen. Her cakes are totally amazing yet totally do able. This book is filled with wonderful recipes for different flavoured cakes. Shows you how much ingredient you need for each different sized cake tin which is an absolute must for beginners. This is a great book for beginners or the more experienced baker. It is packed full of lovely pictures and ideas. I would be lost without mine!

Afternoon Tea at the cottage!

Another fantastic afternoon tea was held here at the cottage. Here are a few pictures of the cakes that were made and enjoyed!!
The top one is an Angel Cake which has got to be the lightest cake I have ever done served with cassis infused blackberries and a cassis sugar syrup! This cake was delicious!
The second cake is a red velvet one. This one was gone in no time at all... it's chocolaty cream cheesy loveliness was a huge hit
The third cake is a Raspberry Ripple one flavoured with my liqueur of the moment called Chambord....it is delicious!
Last but by no means least is the good old favourite a coffee and walnut cake made using Illy espresso coffee......an oldie but a goldie!

Well the time is drawing near!..Vintage china has been sourced..recipes have been tested and we can officially announce the Quantock Cottage TeaRoom will open its doors on Friday 19th August.

Afternoon tea promises to be a selection of the finest foods that Somerset has to offer. I love using local producers and Somerset seem's to have a huge amount of talented Artisan producers.

Places will be limited to 12 at each session so booking early is advised.

As you will be coming to a home setting we want it to be a shared experience and a place to meet and make new friends so someone you may have never met before may well be sat to your left or right.....chat,share stories and enjoy the food!

I have always loved going out for afternoon tea! There is just something so special and satisfying about a table groaning with lots of little sandwiches, pretty cakes and big fat warm scones with a big dollop of strawberry jam oh and not forgetting an even bigger dollop of clotted cream!!.

We all lead such busy lives and seem to have almost forgotten the art of good honest homemade food lovingly prepared for you to enjoy.

So with all of the above in mind I have decided to open up our cottage for Afternoon Tea. It won't just be a scone it will be a table groaning with all things yummy for you to enjoy and whatever you don't manage to eat can be boxed up for you to take home and eat at your leisure.

Tonka Beans

I wanted to share with you a wonderful new *Taste Sensation* that I have come across! Tonka Beans have the most amazing fragrance (its used a lot by perfumers) Its a heady mixture of vanilla, almonds, cinnamon with a hint of clove. The beans come from a species of tree related to the pea family and is native to the Orinoco region of northern South America. They are black and wrinkled and have a brown interior.
Tonka Beans have been used as a vanilla substitute, as a perfume and in tobacco. They are used in French stews and desserts.
Soap companies, like Lush, are using Tonka Beans as part of vanilla smelling soap product. Thorntons has produced a variety of milk chocolate made with a tonka-infused cocoa butter, winning the Academy of Chocolates Silver Award in 2009.
In the Pagan and Occult communities the Tonka Bean is considered to have magical properties and uses. Steeped in a herbal brew of tea it will help cure ailemts of depression as well as boost the immune system.
Having said all of the above the American Government has banned its use in food as it contains a substance called coumarin.
We are lucky enough to not have any such restrictions here and I shall be trialing these yummy beans and aiming to produce a Tonka Bean Cupcake! I shall let you know how I get on

I did a trial of this class a few weeks ago and it was such a success I have decided to add it to the list!
So....drumroll......announcing the brand new *Cake Chic* cupcake decorating class. Come and learn the creative art of using sugarpaste to decorate your cupcakes. Colour it, roll it, emboss it, stencil it then use another media of paste to make the most lovely flowers and decorations. This is a wonderfully totally hands on creative fun and relaxing day.
Class starts at 10.30 where we meet for a coffee then its aprons on and elbows deep in sugarpaste! Christmas is almost upon us! Where has the time gone! I can't wait to begin the cupcake decorating classes in January!
Here are the details for the new classes:-

Classes start at 2pm, Please arrive at 1.45 for a quick cuppa and a getting to know you chat then its aprons on ready for action.

Expect a relaxed, informative fun afternoon of making frosting, decorating cupcakes and sampling some of "The Cupcake Artisans" delicious cupcakes to get you totally inspired! Come and learn all the tricks of the trade.

The afternoon will finish at about 5pm where you will take home a box of 12 of your wonderful creations for all your family and friends to sample and admire.

The cost of the class is £50 per person.

Book early to avoid disappointment as the class places go really quickly.

Looking forward to welcoming you to our lovely cottage, a warm welcome awaits you.

The AGA is finally installed!

We are almost there! Our beautiful AGA was fitted on Wednesday of this week and we love it! Can't possibly cook anything on it as it will get dirty! I shall be practicing over the Christmas holiday ready for the Cupcake orders and classes that will be starting in January. I am working on the dates and will post them on here as soon as possible.

Well we are finally in our lovely cottage in the foot of the Quantocks in wonderful Somerset. We are exhausted but very very happy! Decorating has almost been done but still lots to do on our new kitchen which is in the process of being put in. The cottage has a really sweet blue Rayburn but we have decided to change it and have treated ourselves to something we have always wanted.......A beautiful shiny new AGA.....I am so excited!! As an Aga is built to order we have to wait six weeks for it...I shall probably have burst by then!! hahahaha..
My darling hubby has also converted one of the rooms for me to do my cupcake workshops which will be amazing and give me so much more space for storage etc..
Will keep you posted when I am up and running again..... Bye for now my lovers! (said in West Country accent)

We are moving to Somerset.......

After many weeks of will it won't it it has now finally happened and we have exchanged contracts today on a beautiful cottage in the foot of the Quantocks in Somerset.
It's been a big decision for us to leave Kent and our family and friends but I am sure we shall have lots of visitors coming to stay with us.
Once we have settled in and have our new kitchen installed I am planning to carry on running The Cupcake Artisan and shall offer the lovely people in the West Country a chance to sample my cupcakes and to come to the cottage for cupcake classes.
A big thank you to all my clients and students here in the south east for loving and supporting me in this exciting adventure. I shall be starting my cupcakes by post in Somerset so watch this space.

I have decided to change the name from The Kent Cupcakery to "The Cupcake Artisan".... The meaning of "Artisan" is:-

1. A skilled worker who practices a trade or handicraft.

2.In relation to someone who produces food an "Artisan" is someone who lovingly creates small batches of something with skill and pride, paying a huge amount of attention to detail!

As The Kent Cupcakery I have received so many compliments about my cupcakes! They have so often been described as "Little Works Of Art". I wanted to embrace those wonderful comments and have a new name that truly signifies the amount of time, effort and love that goes into producing a cupcake that looks totally spectacular and tastes exquisite! A cupcake that is truly bespoke, designed with you, for you, by me!

I of course jumped at the chance so armed with a box of cupcakes I went to the BBC today! Have to say what a lovely team of people they are! So lovely, warm and friendly they made me feel so welcome. Andy the host of the show is a really lovely guy and made me feel so relaxed and we chatted as if we had known each other for ages! This lovely lady came on a cupcake course here at the farmhouse a few weeks ago and came back today to try her hand at bread making with our Master Baker on a one to one hands on course held today. We all sat down to a yummy farmhouse style ploughmans with of course hunks of the freshly baked bread...oh and maybe a small glass of wine!

The workshop is aimed at bread making beginners and gives you total hands on "The Dough" and working with fresh yeast! Just take a look at the amazing bread produce by these two lovely ladies! They had such a fun time and they all enjoyed an afternoon tea of "Cupcakes" yum yum!!
